Condensation or Infiltration?
Moisture on walls or ceilings can come from condensation or water infiltration. These two phenomena have different causes and require different solutions.
Signs of condensation
Condensation typically appears on cold surfaces, near thermal bridges, in poorly ventilated areas or during cold periods.
Signs of infiltration
Infiltration is often associated with rain events, appears at specific locations and may be accompanied by staining or efflorescence.
Why the distinction matters
Treating condensation as infiltration (or vice versa) leads to ineffective repairs. A proper diagnosis is essential.
Investigation approach
Thermography, moisture measurements and observation under different conditions help distinguish the two phenomena.
