Preparing a Thermographic Inspection
Guide
Preparing a Thermographic Inspection
The quality of thermographic results depends largely on the conditions at the time of inspection. This guide explains how to prepare your building to get the most accurate and useful data.
Temperature differential
A minimum temperature difference of 10 degrees C between inside and outside is generally required for building envelope thermography.
Stabilization period
The building should be at its normal operating temperature for at least 4 hours before the inspection.
Avoid direct sunlight
Inspections are best performed early morning or evening to avoid solar heating effects on surfaces.
Normal operating conditions
HVAC systems should be operating normally. Unusual conditions should be noted and communicated to the inspector.
